Pics: Protest at University of Lagos as Indian VP pays a visit

There was a protest at the University of Lagos (Unilag) today. According to reports, some students embarked on a peaceful protest but the gates of the school were shut down in the process. Interestingly, the Indian Vice President, Mohammad Hamid Ansari, was to deliver a lecture at the Main auditorium of the school today. No word yet on whether it was cancelled or it went on as planned. Gender Equality bill scales second reading at the senate

The Gender Equality Opportunity (GEO) Bill which suffered major setback in March this year, passed for second reading at the senate today September 29th. The bill which is being sponsored by Senator Biodun Olujimi, seeks to amongst other things address women's freedom of movement, female economic activity, girls' access to education, equal rights for women in marriage, divorce, property/land ownership and inheritance, appropriate measures against gender discrimination in political and public life and prohibitions of violence to women. It was first rejected by majority of the male senators when it was first read in March as most of them felt the bill if passed will give women more power and this according to them was against the African culture. Some of the senators even alleged that the bill if passed will turn some women into prostitutes and lesbians. The bill was mentioned on the floor today and was not opposed by any of the senators. INEC declares APC candidate, Godwin Obaseki, winner of Edo Governorship Election

INEC has declared APC governorship candidate, Godwin Obaseki, winner of the Edo state governorship election. According to the electoral body, Obaseki polled a total of 319,483 votes while his main rival and PDP candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, polled 253,173 votes.

Former Pussycat dolls lead singer and X-Factor Judge Nicole Scherzinger has angrily lashed out at media reports that she cheated on her Tennis player boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov with International DJ and Hit maker Calvin Harris. Militants blow up another NPDC facility in Delta

Militants under the aegis Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate NDJM, today claimed responsibility for the attack of another Nigeria Petroleum Development Company, NPDC delivery line in Delta State. The militants claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement released today by its self styled Gen Aldo Agbalaja. Female Pennsylvania police officer fired for writing racial slur on Snapchat while wearing police uniform

A female police officer in Pennsylvania, Melissa Adamson, has  lost her job after she posted a Snapchat selfie showing herself in uniform — and using a racial slur. The snap showed Melissa , a part-time cop in McKeesport, wearing a uniform and sunglasses in a car, with the caption, “I’m the law today n---a.”  Once her bosses got wind of the snapchat photo, they fired her and she also resigned from another part-time police officer job in Versailles. She called the photo “a stupid mistake” — and insisted she’s not a racist. “Everyone that knows me knows I don’t have a racist bone in my body,” she said  “And people who don’t know me, I can understand why it was misconstrued to where it looks racist. But like I said, everyone who knows me knows I'm not racist. Brad Pitt releases a second statement on his divorce

Last week we all heard that Angelina Jolie had filed for divorce from her husband of just two years, Brad Pitt amidst reports he is being investigated for child abuse by the LA County Department of Children and Family Services for being verbally and physically abusive with one of his children. In a second statement since his separation, the actor said he won't be attending the red carpet screening of Voyage of Time, a documentary he narrated which is happening tomorrow. “Terrence’s ‘Voyage of Time’ is an incredibly beautiful and unique experiential IMAX film for children and families chronicling the birth of time.
